Wong Kitchen Berkeley, CA

This modern hillside home featured 11' high ceilings, tall glass doors and clerestories to the west, and a kitchen that had no relation to the rest of the home. The most important part of the remodel was removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room. This opened up the small kitchen to the larger room, similar to the way the dining area opened up to the living area. The wall was replaced with a breakfast counter and blue pendant lights selected to match the trim tile on the new counter. 12" x 12" white ceramic tiles give the new kitchen counters a seamless look. They contrast with the traditional hand-painted, blue trim tile. Cherry cabinets feature long brushed silver pulls, matching brushed silver appliances, and large cubic ceiling lights complete the contemporary ensemble.

Snyder Kitchen Oakland, CA

This 1930's home had good bones but an outdated kitchen that was not in keeping with the Tudor-style of the original home. Architecturally, walls were removed between the foyer and breakfast nook and between the kitchen and dining room. All these openings were designed to match the original arched opening between the living and dining areas. The breakfast nook was outfitted with a custom-leaded feature window to match a similar window in the living area.
Granite countertops are featured in the kitchen. Custom tiles were crafted from the leftover counter granite and inset into the floor for an integrated look that reflects the old world charm of the original residence. 45 degree countertops offset one another, the microwave in one corner and the refrigerator opposite. Custom cabinets were painted for a traditional look with glass and pewter pulls to match the granite and leaded glass upper cabinets. Sparkling Murano glass light fixtures in the kitchen complement the pewter fixture in the breakfast nook.

Moyle Kitchen Oakland, CA

Small and cramped, the kitchen of this 1940s neo-Colonial home needed to be enlarged and modernized. Removing a mechanical wall between the kitchen and breakfast nook improved the kitchen's circulation. At the same time, an unused side stairway and landing were incorporated into the area while the southern wall was moved out to create a large spacious kitchen for this growing family.

Lukesh Kitchen Berkeley, CA

The 1960's Kitchen was remodeled and opened up to the Dining Room. Natural oak cabinets were replaced with custom painted cabinets more in keeping with the period of the house. Arts & Crafts lighting fixtures and a soapstone countertop complete the ambience.
