Snyder Bathroom Oakland, CA

An Art Deco print provided the inspiration for this small, dark 1930's bathroom which needed rethinking. Framed as a window, the print inspired the bathroom's color scheme. Indeed the selection of the granite slab, the circular shower design, the marble, mosaic, wainscot, and the floor and glass tile, all were selected to complement the print.

Measuring less than fifty square feet and featuring a generous curved shower with overhead and wall shower sprays, the bathroom feels light and spacious. While some space was borrowed from adjacent closets, this open feeling was enhanced by replacing the single window with two windows, using a translucent entry door, and installing mirrors on the linen closet doors.

The sink and toilet were selected for their classical lines while the elegant tile work -- featuring handset custom tiles in a basket weave pattern on the floor -- provides the luxurious finishing touch to this highly stylized room.

Moyle Bathroom, Oakland, CA

Part of a master bedroom suite, this outdated bathroom needed to be modernized and enlarged. The southern wall was moved out to incorporate a three-person whirlpool, which was nestled into a corner window overlooking its hillside neighborhood. Its companion shower stall was finished with marble tile while dark wood cabinetry and brown tile contrast with the light floor tiles.
The room was designed for generous amounts of natural light and features an octagon window typical for homes of this vintage. A variety of light fixtures were selected for functionality: wall sconces grace the sink area, a fluorescent fixture provides general lighting while the wall towel racks are accented with a recessed wall washer.
